Type of booster system: supercharging
Structure: the supercharger is driven by the starter crankshaft through gear speed increaser, or driven by the crankshaft toothed drive belt pulley and electromagnetic clutch
Features: supercharging can effectively improve the engine power, compared with turbocharging, its low-speed supercharging effect is better. In addition, the supercharger and the engine are easy to match, and the structure is relatively compact. However, the fuel consumption rate of the supercharger is slightly higher than that of the non supercharged one because it consumes the power of the engine.
Type of booster system: gas wave supercharging
Structure: the crankshaft drives the rotor of the air wave supercharger through the transmission belt. The exhaust pressure wave is used to compress the air to improve the intake pressure.
Features: the structure of the gas wave supercharger is simple, the processing is convenient, the working temperature is not high, and there is no need for heat-resistant data and cooling. Compared with turbocharging, its low-speed torque characteristics are good, but the volume is large, the noise level is high, and the installation orientation is restricted. The supercharger can only be used in the low speed range. Because the maximum speed of diesel engine is relatively low, it is mostly used in diesel engine.
Type of booster system: turbocharging
Structure: the exhaust gas turbine is used to drive the compressor impeller which is installed in the same axis with it. The fresh air enters the cylinder after being pressurized in the compressor
Features: the advantage of turbocharging is that its economy is better than that of supercharged and non supercharged engines, and can greatly reduce the emission of harmful gases and noise level. The defect of turbocharging is that there is not much torque added at low speed, and the transient response is poor when the engine working condition changes, resulting in poor acceleration performance of car, especially at low speed
Type of booster system: compound supercharging
Structure: proper combination of supercharging and turbocharging
Series compound supercharging: in this kind of supercharging system, the air first advances the pressure through the turbocharger, then enters the intercooler to cool down, and then pressurizes by the supercharger. This kind of supercharging method is mainly used in high supercharging engine
Parallel compound supercharging: supercharger and turbocharger supply charge air to the engine together. In the low speed range, it mainly relies on supercharging, while in the high speed range, it mainly relies on Turbocharging. This supercharging system improves the low speed torque characteristics of the engine
